Ambitious Impact (AIM, formerly Charity Entrepreneurship)[1] is collecting ideas for promising interventions and new charities in animal welfare, global health, and development that have climate change co-benefits (mitigation or adaptation), or vice versa.[2] Specifically, we're looking for ideas that:

  • Are cost-effective in the field of global health and development because it improves climate change adaptation.
  • Are cost-effective in the field of global health and development, and are also a cost-effective way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Are cost-effective in the field of animal welfare (farmed or wild), and are also a cost-effective way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The end-goal is to launch new charities that improve the cost-effectiveness of climate funding by achieving more emissions reductions and by increasing co-benefits for humans and/or animals.

How you can help

As part of the first stage of our research process into effective interventions in this cause area, we're welcome suggestions for our long-list of ideas. We welcome anyone regardless of their experience with climate change, global health and development, animal welfare, or impact research to send suggestions. We will use this list as a starting point for identifying interventions or ideas that appear cost-effective.

Try to be as clear as possible about what the idea entails (like a small theory of change). However, don't let lack of clarity censor you, we rather have an unclear idea than no idea.

Please have an extremely low-bar for recommending an idea, this is a long-list!

Suggest an idea (2 mins)

If you have multiple ideas, you can fill out the form multiple times, or send an message to the email address in the form if that is more convenient for you.

We also welcome broader ideas for sub-causes in the climate space that are promising to look at. If you have broader feedback or suggestions for the research process, feel free to send an email. I'll also monitor the comment section under this post.

We'll share more information about our motivation for exploring this space in an upcoming post. We might slightly change, narrow, or broaden the scope of this research in the upcoming weeks.

Apt time to plug an analysis I did a while ago of paying farmers in India not to burn their crop stubble. It's primarily a (pretty effective) air quality intervention, but I pulled together some numbers that suggest it also averts GHGs at $36/ton of CO2e, which would probably satisfy a lot of climate funders!
