I am not the author of this piece, nor am I an AI specialist. But I do write about tech issues intersecting with global politics, so I found this article very interesting and thought it may spark valuable discussion on the forum. I'm especially curious what people think of the IPCC comparison, whether they agree with the thesis that "scientific independence is often a recipe for political irrelevance" on global issues, and what the implications are for EA's hoping to shape or inform policy more broadly (not just on AI).
