The first step in more effective AI legislation is a better informed constituency. The AI Safety Awareness Foundation is dedicated to raising awareness about modern AI, highlighting its benefits and risks, and letting the public know how they can help.
We believe:
- AI’s rapid development necessitates fast and effective action from both the public and private sector to ensure an equitable AI future.
- Effective AI policy starts with an educated constituency.
- Without the proper safeguards, AI will have a negative impact on the majority of people.
We host in-person AI Safety Workshops aimed at a mainstream audience in cities around the US. We are planning a nationwide AI Safety Workshop Day on April 27th with workshops held locally in every major city around the country. Our goal is to educate as many people as possible about the current state of AI and the risks of future development.
Interested in helping? We are looking for volunteers and have opportunities at whatever level of involvement is best for you! Here’s what we need help with:
- Participate in one of our workshops: Just attending one of our AI Safety Awareness Day workshops in your local city is a big help for our mission!
- Facilitate one of our workshops: We believe local community members are the best facilitators for AI workshops. No prior AI knowledge is needed—your role is to guide discussions and ensure balanced participation, not to teach. We’ll provide slides, discussion questions, and training to fully support you!
- Adapt our materials and create your own workshop: We would love volunteers to adapt our workshop for their local community and network. This could be a more technical hands-on workshop with coding, or a workshop focused on AI impacts to the economy, or to the visual art, etc.
- Logistics of organizing local workshops and groups: In the leadup to April 27th, we’ll need lots of support on the ground in each city. We’re looking for volunteers who can help identify and book venues, advertise workshops locally, and help with other logistics as they come up.
- Partnering with other organizations: We are looking to partner with organizations that can help us expand our reach. These groups might include, but are not limited to:
- Unions and trade associations
- Relevant government bodies (local and federal)
- Schools (universities, city colleges)
- Marginalized community groups (immigrant, LGTBQ+, etc)
- Churches
- Public libraries
- Tech companies with strong philanthropic track record or AI interest
