This is a linkpost for https://ourworldindata.org/space-exploration-satellites
We just launched a new collection of charts on Space Exploration and Satellites on Our World in Data.
We plan to expand this in the future – with more data, and more text to present it – but in the meantime, you can explore the following charts:
- Annual budget of NASA
- Annual number of human visits to space
- Cumulative number of human visits to space
- Annual number of objects launched into outer space
- Cumulative number of objects launched into outer space
- Cost of space launches to low Earth orbit
- Cumulative number of exoplanets discovered, by method
- Cumulative number of people who have been to space
- Largest confirmed impact craters on Earth by diameter
- Near-Earth asteroids discovered over time
- Number of objects in low Earth orbit, by type
- Number of objects in space, by orbit
Interactive graph previews when you hover over each link! 😍
Very cool to see! I'd also be interested in the number of belligerent acts in space (deployed military satellites with offensive capabilities, anti-satellite weapon tests etc.), if such numbers aren't too small or too hard to come by.
