OOO from Dec 23 to Jan 13.

Hello! I'm Toby. I'm Content Manager at CEA. I work with the Online Team to make sure the Forum is a great place to discuss doing the most good we can. You'll see me posting a lot, authoring the EA Newsletter and curating Forum Digests, making moderator comments and decisions, and more.

Before working at CEA, I studied Philosophy at the University of Warwick, and worked for a couple of years on a range of writing and editing projects within the EA space. Recently I helped run the Amplify Creative Grants program, to encourage more impactful podcasting and YouTube projects. You can find a bit of my own creative output on my blog, and my podcast feed.

How I can help others

I wish it could be EV-mas every day...

This is great JWS, thanks for writing it! After Forum Wrapped is out in Jan, we should have a list of underrated posts (unsure on exact wording), we'll see how it compares.

We're in there now! I'm working on the EA Newsletter, other people are working on posts and google docs, and we are having chats in the breaks. Feel free to join.

So pleased to see this! Please update us on the next steps when you know about them. (Though I understand that sometimes it is better not to share details about legal cases).
Specifically, I'm wondering: does the judge agreeing with the key argument open up other potential legal cases, for example? If DEFRA's labelling scheme became a reality, would that mean they'd have to make statements about the wellbeing of Frankenchickens?

FWIW given the context of previous discussions on the EA Forum, I read the title as meaning something like "influencing other people's donation decisions is often more valuable than improving your own" when I saw it on the frontpage.

Thanks! Yep I'd be very interested in a biorisk week... I'll put your time of perils posts in my to-read list.

Thanks for sharing, David! And thank you for your continued dedication to providing constructive criticism.

I've got a pretty long "to read" backlog, does anyone have recommendations for posts from reflective altruism which particularly changed their mind/ gave them action-relevant updates?

Also, question for David- is there a particular area of beliefs which you think the EA Forum community doesn't examine enough, which you'd like to see us hold a debate week about? I'm planning a bunch of debate weeks next year, so I'm always open to suggestions.

Interesting- for what it's worth, I often make frontpage vs community decisions and I don't think of community as relegating content. Often, there is less community content each day, so community posts stick around for longer than frontpage posts. In some cases, I'd assume it would be better for engagement to be tagged community. I haven't looked at the stats on this, so I don't know for sure if my impression is correct.

Here it is. Still uploading to spotify etc... I think. I'll link it when it's done.

Thank you so much David! I spent a while looking before I commented and I could only find it on  'brainyquotes.com' and the like.
In this case- I really like that quote- suits the website.

Noting here that the totals going to each charity have been updated (upwards), due to a matching miscalculation. This also means that we have hit two rather than one of the collective rewards- so keep an eye out for that!
