Nicely written and covering many of the angles, thanks, enjoyed reading this. My key concern is that the purpose of aid, or development aid, shouldn't be economic growth in the GDP sense in my view. For me the measure needs to be about wellbeing, sustainability, empowerment of greater and greater proportions of the population. In some countries you could have negative growth but improving distribution of wellbeing and that would be a good outcome. It is nigh on impossible to measure of course. What is useful is communities deciding what it is they want to improve, and getting support to do that in a way that makes the community better able to fund and support their own ventures in the future.
