Returning to this after some time to consider everything - I stand by everything I said. The attempts to defend Givewell's approach in here hold no weight whatsoever. Just as an example, the attempt to defend Givewell's discarding of information from previous rounds is simply absurd. It is the very definition of inefficiency not to use all of the information available to one when making a decision.
And it shows exactly how ridiculous Givewell's approach to recruitment is - their focus on hiring from only a tiny subset of universities (that have now been found to be racist and toxic) along with their ignoring relevant information already revealed during the redruitment process indciates that Givewell is not serious about hiring the best people. It needs serious reform - knocking the whole thing down and starting from scratch would be th best approach.
